Strengthening National Capacity to Manage Irregular Migration
IOM is currently working with the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) to ensure that borders are better managed and also that legitimate travel is facilitated.
Current areas of intervention include increasing the impact of IT at borders and at key NIS offices in-country as well as developing the use of intelligence gathering in operation and effective immigration control.
The Immigration and Border Management (IBM) team in Abuja has worked within government sectors on border management issues for many years and this knowledge base facilitates interventions in the areas of document fraud training, risk analysis and border post assessments.
IOM aims to assist the Government of Nigeria commence the implementation of a sustainable strategy which would include maintaining a long-term commitment to change and capacity development within the NIS.
