Abuja (Nigeria) March 14, 2017 The International Organization for Migration’s (IOM) upcoming mini-series, titled– ‘The Missing Steps,’ will highlight the risks of following irregular migration routes and, importantly, the alternatives, to raise awareness about opportunities available to Nigerians. The series, made possible through a grant of USD 415,000 to IOM provided by the Government of Switzerland through the State Secretariat for Migration, will be aired on national television across the country in the coming months.

A local movie production company, C&E Productions, is producing the series in coordination with IOM. IOM is working closely with the Government of Nigeria through the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) to ensure ownership and relevant content of the series.

“IOM is committed to encouraging safe and orderly migration,” said Enira Krdzalic, the organization’s Chief of Mission in Nigeria. “This television series is just one of the innovative ways we try to connect with local communities to ensure the public is aware of the risks, dangers, but also opportunities that are available to travel and migrate to other countries. We expect this series, generously supported by the Swiss government, will speak to Nigerians and the experiences of many, such as those who have already attempted to follow irregular routes through Libya, for example.”

Shooting for the series is nearly complete and it will be scheduled for 13 weeks of broadcast on national television station. It is expected that by the broadcast of the mini-series, behaviour change with regard to safe and secure migration will be created
