migration is a driving force for development
“Migration does not matter just because migrants add to development, migration also matters because migrants are first and foremost human beings and are therefore entitled to their fundamental human rights”, said Muhammadu Buhari, the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Buhari stated this at the National Migration Dialogue held today (17 December) in Abuja. Frantz Celestin, IOM Nigeria, Chief of Mission ai, reaffirmed that “migration is a driving force for development” while delivering his goodwill message. He highlighted the importance of multilateral cooperation to ensure migration that is safe, orderly and dignified. The annual national migration dialogue was part of the activities to commemorate this year’s International Migrants Day. The dialogue brought the migration and development nexus on the agenda of the national discourse. The event was supported by the Swiss Agency for Cooperation and Development (SDC), and organized by the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons (NCFRMI) in collaboration with the International Organization for Migration (IOM) under the EU-IOM Joint Initiative for Migrant Protection and Reintegration in Nigeria.
