National Migration Project Provides ICT, Office Equipment to Labour Ministry in Bauchi State

13 October 2014 (Bauchi) - On Monday, 13 October 2014, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) provided Information Communication Technology (ICT) and other office equipment to the Federal Ministry of Labour and Productivity (FMLP) in Bauchi State to cover the North-East. This activity was carried out under the framework of the National 10th European Development Fund (EDF) project “Promoting Better Management of Migration in Nigeria”. The provision of the equipment is part of the project’s efforts to enhance the capacity of the International Labour Migration Desk (ILMD) to provide services to job seekers, employers, would-be migrants and returned migrants in the zone.

The Chief of Mission of IOM, Ms Enira Krdzalic handed over five branded HP computers, laserjet printers, a 10 KVA diesel generator set, two split air conditioners and back-up solutions to the representative of the FMLP.

IOM, within the framework of the National 10th EDF project, has already supported FMLP with the donation of ICT equipment for the ILMD in Abuja. The project will also be supporting the replication of the ILMD in Anambra, Delta, Kaduna and Lagos states on the basis of a needs assessment it conducted in all five states from 25 June to 7 July, 2014. It is expected that the job centres will provide services necessary for empowering job seekers including migrant and would-be migrant workers and contribute to decent job opportunities by licensed private employment agencies as well as strengthening the capacity of ILMD in promoting organized labour migration.
